Abstract Art in Basel: Art Basel, Fondation Beyeler & the World’s Premier Art Market City

No city on earth has a more concentrated relationship with serious contemporary art collecting than Basel. Art Basel – the world’s most prestigious international art fair – the Fondation Beyeler in Riehen, the Kunstmuseum Basel – one of the oldest and finest public art collections in the world – and the Museum Tinguely define an environment where artistic standards are set at the highest possible level. The international collector community that gathers in Basel each June – from private collectors and museum directors to gallery owners and art advisors – represents the most discerning art audience anywhere. Sabine Runge’s abstract paintings – with their interplay of 24-karat gold leaf, deep tactile texture, and bold compositional confidence – are built for collectors who operate at exactly this level. Her curated online gallery is available year-round, bringing gallery-quality original art directly to Basel collectors and international buyers worldwide – direct artist access, no intermediary, free worldwide shipping.

Craftsmanship & Collector Value: Why These Originals Stand Apart

Every original begins with Sabine’s signature layering technique: multiple acrylic layers build a three-dimensional surface enriched with texture pastes, fine sand particles, various chalks, and marble powder. The finest pigmentation ensures long-lasting luminosity across the entire canvas. 24-karat gold leaf and silver leaf are applied by hand, catching and shifting with natural light – a quality that rewards close looking and reveals new dimensions as light conditions change throughout the day. Each painting is sealed with a satin-matte UV-protective varnish for lasting color brilliance, then hand-signed and gallery-ready on premium canvas.

Sabine Runge has sold over 120 original paintings across 16 countries. International collectors value the exceptional material quality and the transparent authenticity of buying original art directly from the artist – factors that matter deeply to the kind of collector that Basel attracts. For discerning buyers in Basel, Zurich, Geneva, and across Switzerland, these contemporary abstract works are timeless acquisitions with profound aesthetic substance.

What makes buying directly from the artist the right choice for serious collectors?

For collectors who understand the art market – and Basel collectors understand it better than anyone – direct acquisition from the artist offers something no gallery can match: complete transparency on materials, process, and provenance; a direct relationship with the creator; and the knowledge that every euro goes to supporting the artist’s work rather than institutional overhead. This is collecting at its most authentic.

TEXTURE, LIGHT & ATMOSPHERE

Sabine Runge’s abstract original paintings emerge through layers of color, texture and light. Relief-like surfaces, subtle material contrasts, and selected elements such as gold leaf or silver leaf give the works their physical presence and atmospheric depth.

Created in the artist’s studio near Munich, the works move between quiet tension, intuitive openness and architectural calm. From small-scale pieces to large abstract paintings, each original is developed to unfold its presence especially within modern interiors and collector-oriented spaces.

Inner Voice - Current Era

Inner Voice represents my current artistic language: Bold in color, intuitive and emotionally open. Here, color becomes an expression of inner movement — raw, vivid, and consciously composed.
