Original Artworks by Sabine Runge
Anyone who acquires a work of art rarely chooses it solely for its colours, forms, or dimensions. What truly matters is the connection between the artwork, the space, and the individual. Art often accompanies us for many years. It becomes part of our surroundings, our memories, and our daily experience of the world.
Sabine Runge’s abstract original paintings are created as one-of-a-kind works in her studio near Munich. Today, her artworks can be found in private collections across Europe, North America, and Asia. Each painting is guided by the same belief: art should not merely be observed. It should move something within us.
Artworks with Lasting Presence
A work of art often remains in a space longer than furniture, colours, or even architecture. We live with it, discover new details, and develop a relationship with its presence over time. Some works lose their impact after a short while. Others reveal new layers with every encounter.
It is this second kind of art that interests me.
For many years, my life was shaped by structure, performance, and control. Painting opened a different space. A space for intuition, movement, and trust in what wants to emerge during the creative process. To this day, every work evolves within this tension between conscious composition and the courage to embrace the unexpected.
Layers of acrylic, marble powder, textured materials, and selected accents of gold leaf or silver leaf create surfaces that continuously respond to light, perspective, and their surroundings. No artwork appears exactly the same at every moment. That is where its vitality resides.
People looking to buy art are often searching for something beyond a specific motif. They are searching for something that endures. An original work that gives a space its identity. A presence that continues to resonate years later.
Today, my artworks are held in private collections in sixteen countries worldwide. What unites these collectors is rarely a shared interior style. Rather, it is a search for works that do more than decorate. They accompany.
Art Beyond the Visible
I am interested not only in what becomes visible on the canvas. I am interested in what emerges between the layers. The traces of previous decisions. The areas that remain partially concealed. The tension between control and surrender.
Many of my paintings develop differently from what I initially envisioned. Layers are reworked, surfaces disappear, and new structures emerge. It is often in these moments that the true dialogue with the painting begins. Not everything can be planned. Not everything needs to be controlled.
Perhaps this is why art resonates so deeply with us. We recognise something within it that reflects our own lives. Contradictions. Change. Transitions. The coexistence of clarity and uncertainty.
Contemporary paintings rarely reveal themselves all at once. They unfold gradually. With each viewing, new details emerge, new relationships become visible, and perception shifts. The artwork remains the same, yet its effect continues to evolve.
For me, this is where the unique power of contemporary art resides. It does not explain. It creates space. Space for thoughts, memories, and personal meanings that each viewer discovers for themselves.
Art as an Expression of Identity
Every space tells a story about the people who inhabit it. Architecture, materials, and light shape that story. Art makes it visible.
Choosing an original artwork is therefore more than an aesthetic decision. A work of art becomes part of one’s environment and way of life. It reflects not only personal taste, but often values, experiences, and the way we choose to shape the spaces around us.
People often choose art for the same reasons they form meaningful relationships. Not because of perfection, but because of connection. Something moves us before we can explain why. We recognise something familiar. Something that resonates with who we are.
My work is not driven by a pursuit of perfection. Authenticity interests me more than flawlessness. Visible structures, intentional disruptions, and layered surfaces are just as important as moments of stillness and openness. It is precisely these contrasts that give a work its character and depth.
Many people who buy contemporary art are not looking for an object that simply adapts to its surroundings. They are looking for a work with its own presence. A work with a point of view. An original that is not interchangeable and that gives a space a distinctive identity.
For this reason, I do not see my paintings as decoration. They are an expression of a conscious choice. Individuality over conformity. Depth over superficiality. Spaces that reflect personality and embrace art as an integral part of their identity.
Perhaps this is the unique role of an original artwork. It does not simply transform a space. It transforms the way we experience it.
Why Originals Affect Us Differently
There is a difference between looking at an image and encountering an original work of art.
An original possesses a physical presence that cannot be fully captured in a photograph or reproduction. Light interacts with texture, shadows shift with the viewing angle, and every layer tells the story of decisions made throughout the creative process.
Particularly in abstract painting, a significant part of the experience emerges through materiality. Visible layers, subtle surface fractures, traces of movement, and the interaction of different materials create a depth that can only be fully appreciated in person.
Perhaps this is what makes the relationship between people and original artworks so unique. An original is not merely observed. It becomes part of a space, part of everyday life, and part of the personal story of those who live with it.
For this reason, many collectors do not choose a work because they are searching for a specific subject. They choose it because they feel a connection. A resonance that cannot easily be explained and often emerges from the very first encounter.
Every painting by Sabine Runge is created as a one-of-a-kind work in her studio near Munich. It exists only once and carries the traces of its creation within it — visible in its layers, textures, and details that continue to reveal themselves over time.
Inner Voice - Current Era
Inner Voice represents my current artistic language: Bold in color, intuitive and emotionally open. Here, color becomes an expression of inner movement — raw, vivid, and consciously composed.

How do I care for my original painting?
Light dusting with a soft, dry cloth is sufficient. All works are sealed with a protective varnish to preserve color and surface quality over time. Direct sunlight and excessive humidity should nevertheless be avoided.
