Material & Technique
The foundation is deep burgundy and aubergine, with red, yellow and orange glowing above it and cool turquoise as a contrast – as many-colored as a canopy of leaves in October. The paint is dabbed, torn open and uncovered again, layer by layer, until the surface recalls bark, moss or old plaster. Between the layers lies 24-karat gold leaf – applied by hand, leaf by leaf: the glow of the autumn sun in the trees, in real gold on canvas that does not tarnish.

How It Lives in a Room
The gold changes with the light: restrained in the morning, suddenly alive in the warm glow of evening, as if the autumn sun were breaking through the trees once more. The dark tones give the room depth, the gold makes it glow – above a sofa, a dining table or a sideboard.
