The play of light. In Sapphire Cave, a deep space of sapphire and cobalt blue opens up, dense enough to feel like a cave where light only finds its way through gradually – a soft glow seems to emerge from the darkness at the center.

The Rügen chalk gives the surface a matte, mineral texture that softens the light rather than reflecting it – depending on the time of day, new, previously hidden facets of color come forward. This original abstract painting was created in Sabine Runge's studio near Munich.
